By Darren Mungerson (June 21, 2022, 6:12 p.m. EDT) – Illinois’ One-in-Seven-Day Rest Act, or ODRISA, requires Illinois employers to allow a meal period for employees who work seven and a half hours or more consecutively, and also provide a day off for employees who are not exempt under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.[1]
Although the ODRISA has been on the books in one form or another for about 50 years, there have been relatively few enforcement proceedings for violation compared to other Illinois employment laws.
