SEATTLE, November 11, 2021 / PRNewswire / – TIME has revealed its list of the 100 best inventions of 2021 that make the world a better, smarter and even a little more fun place. Along with five other toys and games, TIME presented Children’s Committee and SproutelThe interactive emotion management toy for children, the Purring companion.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the stress in the daily life of families,” said Mia doces, vice-president of innovation at the Children’s Committee. “The Purrble toy began when our research partner Petr Slovak and I got together to think about a research question: How can we create a home experience that families can use to help children feel calm when they are feeling overwhelmed by their emotions? ”
To answer this question, Committee for Children, a nonprofit leader in socio-emotional learning and creator of the Second Step® family of programs and The Imagine districtâ¢, partnered with Sproutel, a game-focused research and development studio, to invent the Purrble toy.
Powered by research-based technology, the Purrble Companion is both a high-tech device and a soft, furry toy perfectly sized for soothing on the go. Equipped with sensors, it is responsive to touch and movement. When children soothe the Purrble toy, its vibrating heart rate slows down and the toy responds with purrs that signal calm. By calming the Purrble Companion, children become more aware of their own feelings and can ultimately learn to calm themselves down.
To build its 2021 list, TIME solicited nominations from its editors and correspondents around the world, as well as through an online application process. The magazine then assessed each candidate on key factors including originality, creativity, efficiency, ambition and impact. The result is a list that includes an innovative and eco-friendly dye for jeans, a truly new form of pasta, breakthrough vaccines against COVID-19 and malaria, and much more.
âWe are delighted that the Purrble toy has been honored on the TIME list of the top 100 inventions of 2021,â said Doces. “I am delighted to see how this honor will spark interest in an innovation that creates a bond of calm for the whole family.”
