The organizers of Run Norwich have announced that they have canceled this year’s event to preserve its future.
In a report the Community Sports Foundation (CSF) said it was forced to make the decision because “ uncertainty ” surrounding large-scale events could have crippled the charity financially.
The event – which attracts thousands of runners – helps support a number of initiatives for people with disabilities, programs aimed at improving mental health or those suffering from loneliness.
Dan Wynne, CSF, said:
They say while the non-lockdown roadmap would allow the race to take place, there is still uncertainty over big events. and posed too great a risk.
Due to the costs associated with the annual race, such as merchandise, gift bags, signage and medals, the charity would lose thousands of dollars if forced to cancel the event on short notice. .
Those who allowed the Foundation to retain their 2020 registration fee as a donation were to receive priority registration and other incentives for the 2021 race; these will now be valid for the next edition of Run Norwich instead.
