Vermont Business Magazine Alyssa Bourque, a sophomore on the University of Vermont athletics team, today announced that she has signed a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agreement with SEAAV Athletics. Bourque will be a brand ambassador and role model for the company. She recently participated in a photo and video shoot to represent the brand. As part of the deal, she will earn a commission on clothing sales.
Bourque, 19, of Benton, Maine, created the partnership with SEAAV by working with Pliable Marketing, a company that helps high school, college and professional athletes build their brands. Bourque joins Norwich University hockey player Rylie McIntyre as a client of Pliable in Vermont.
Earlier this year, Bourque signed with Pliable Marketing to represent NIL. She worked directly with Greg Glynn, Founder and CEO of Pliable and Mckenna Haz, Founder and CEO of SEAAV Athletics to create the NIL deal.
“I’m proud to partner with SEAAV Athletics because of the brand’s commitment to the environment. The clothes are really comfortable so it feels good to wear them and support the company’s mission of help protect the planet. I wanted to find a meaningful way to be able to use my name, image and likeness in a positive way and this was a perfect opportunity,” said Bourque, a javelin thrower for the University of Vermont.
SEAAV clothing is made from recycled materials, including plastic bottles. Every SEAAV garment is made with recycled polyester, which reduces emissions by 75%, water consumption by 90% and energy consumption by 50%.
As part of the NIL deal, the company has created a custom promo code, “ALYSSA15,” that people can use at SEAAVAthletics.com at checkout to save 15% off their order. Bourque then earns a commission on all sales using his promotional code.
In June 2021, a unanimous Supreme Court decision upheld the lower court’s ruling that NCAA restrictions on “educational benefits” for college athletes violated antitrust law. As a result, college athletes now have the opportunity to benefit from their name, image and likeness.
Earlier this summer, Bourque teamed up with her younger sister Kaylyn to produce a public service announcement for the Waterville Humane Society. Both sisters made an in-kind donation of $5,000 using their name, image and likeness to support the organization and show their love for animals.
In June, the two sisters threw the first pitches at the Portland Sea Dogs game to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the IX title. The Bourque sisters are trailblazers in Maine for their work to increase the popularity of women’s sports and are among the first athletes in the state to gain name, image and likeness opportunities.
“Alyssa’s passion for the environment made this a great NIL partnership opportunity for her. As a track and field athlete, she is always on the lookout for comfortable activewear, so this was perfect for her. Now she can help save the planet and save people money on high-quality apparel from SEAAV Athletics,” said Greg Glynn, Founder and CEO of Pliable.
Based in Augusta, Maine, Pliable works with Alyssa Bourque for NIL representation and athlete branding services. Bourque is building its brand using Pliable’s 10-step Athlete Branding Handbook.
Pliable’s list of current athlete brand clients includes Kaylyn Bourque (Benton, ME), a high school ice hockey player; Alyssa Bourque (Benton, ME), track and field athlete at the University of Vermont; Catie Boudiette (Redding, CT), ice hockey goaltender at Quinnipiac University; Colin Cook (Brookline, NH), triathlete and triathlon coach; Tyler Jewell (Sudbury, MA), two-time Olympic snowboarder; Caleb Manuel (Topsham, ME), golfer at the University of Georgia; Rylie McIntyre (Brunswick, ME) ice hockey player at Norwich University and Kaylee Sakoda (Cypress, CA), golfer at Quinnipiac University.
